Being Thankful

By Marcia K. Leaser

It’s once again the time of year we meet with friends and family to celebrate what we call Thanksgiving.  A day set aside to notice what we have and Thank God for the memories and moments we’ve known throughout the previous year.  Generally we share a meal of Turkey or Ham and all the trimmings.  To remember cranberry salad or pumpkin pie that was once prepared by those no longer sitting at the table with us.  Isn’t it strange how life goes on even after those we love are gone. Then one or more no longer sitting in our midst are thought of fondly, and missed greatly.  Not that they are out of sight out of mind the rest of the year, but this day is just a time we remember them more openly as we gather once again.

We can almost taste the scrumptious cranberry salad mom spent hours making.  And somehow through the years her “special” recipe was lost, and no matter how many times we try and make it the way she did… it just isn’t the same.  Then we can’t help but wonder… was it the recipe or the love in the preparing of it that made it so wonderful?

May this year be a blessed time for you and yours, as you gather with those at your table and those who are absent due to death or extenuating circumstances beyond your control.

May our glorious God bless you at this Thanksgiving time.
