What we owe our Children
By Marcia K. Leaser
October 18, 2011There are many things we, as parents, owe our children.
We owe them a marriage we work at every day, because there are no perfect marriages… or perfect parents.
They’re watching our every move so set an example they’ll want to follow.
There are many things they’ll need to know as they grow up and away from us. More than “just the basics”
We need to teach them the love of nature… yes. But we must teach them the love of God… because without Him we’ve taught them simply compassion – not hope.
We need to teach them to respect the earth… by noticing its majesty and mystery. But, if we don’t introduce them to its creator we’ve shown them only now - not eternity.
If we give them ample space to find their own way, by giving them room to become what we’re praying they’ll become. Yet… not explain the path God has laid before them. We’ve given them merely life - not their destiny.
Hope beyond today, eternity beyond tomorrow and a destiny beyond life itself. That’s more than parental guidance… that’s a legacy they’ll be proud to pass on.
