A Moment in Time

Several years ago my grand-daughter Ashley, then seven, and our family went to a live performance of the life of Christ.

In the middle of the play, the man playing Jesus walked among the people in the audience.

He knelt beside Ashley, took her hand and spoke softly to her.

Ashley’s eyes were glued to His, as a look of awe covered her face.

When He left, I turned to the little child beside me. "Oh, Ashley," I said in a hushed voice. "Jesus talked to you, honey."

"Oh, no," she replied with eyes full of complete reverence. "That was God."

My heart skipped a beat and the lump in my throat was as big as a fist.

Yes, Jesus was God ... God incarnate.

How many of us know without wavering, as Ashley did that night, that Jesus Christ is God Himself ? God, who took on flesh and came to earth as a human being to die on a cross of disgrace to give us grace, which is Life eternal.

Ashley had no doubt, in that tiny moment of infinity, that she and the man in linen robes and dusty sandals were the only two in that crowded room, where over a thousand people had come to witness something so few totally understand.

For assuredly, I say unto you. Many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not. And to hear what you hear, but did not hear it. Matthew 13:17
