Be Still

11 Chronicles 20:17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord within you.

It was early spring and I was grateful to be working outside in my yard, after being cooped up for the long winter months.

The wind was warm but brisk as I turned my face upward to allow the fresh breeze to blow through my hair.  My eyes caught sight of a bird flying majestically through the blue sky overhead.  It was carrying a piece of straw in its beak to build a nest, and I smiled happily, knowing this was one more assurance that spring was officially here.

Suddenly a huge gust of wind came from nowhere and blew the tops of the trees wildly.

My eyes were still on the bird and I was surprised at his reaction.  He relaxed completely, not fluttering  feather, and allowed the wind to carry him along.

When the gust subsided, he resumed his journey rested and relaxed.

That fragile bird displayed a greater faith than I often do.  How many times do I relax when the winds of life threaten my plans?  How often do I just ride out the storm, knowing it will soon pass?  Not often.  I fret and worry ... then when the storm subsides, I find myself worn out and weak from stress and strain of fighting something I have no control over.  Knowing the difference between battles I can win and ones I should not be fighting at all is the difference between "God" being in control and "me" being in control.

I walked slowly into the house and was grateful to a little bird for teaching me a mighty lesson.

Prayer

Father, I thank You for living within me and awakening me to the “little” Things that draw me closer to You.

Thought for the day

Oftentimes we make this life more difficult than it need be. How many times when we seek God's guidance in the things we sometimes don’t notice… do we find the answer right there all along.
