The Busyness of Life

When I was a young mother, I thought, “Won’t it be nice when the kids start school and I’ll have all the time in the world to do what I want.”  Forget that!  There was track, softball practice, basketball practice, play practice and a few other practices I’m sure I’ve forgotten.

When college came along, I thought, “Won’t it be nice to finally relax?”  So much for that!  I think my oldest daughter Dawn moved six times in the four years she was at Bluffton.

Then I thought, “Once they have lives of their own I won’t know what to do with all my spare time.  Well, I did have some extra time, but I swear Dawn has moved eight more times in the last 12 years.

My younger daughter Tammy bought a fixer-upper house that I’ve helped fixer-up!

With that done, I figured I’d have lots of time.  WRONG!  With lives of their own come grandkids.  Love em’.

Amidst all that busyness, I’ve written 32 books.  Bob and I’ve traveled a lot, built a room on our home, and landscaped the yard… several times.

There are 365 days in a year.  7 days in a week, and 24 hours in every day.  We have no control over that.  That’s just how it is.  We do have control over how we use those days and hours, however.

I’ve been busy, yes, but in that time I introduced my daughters to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  They, in turn, have taught my five grandchildren.  Isaac, Dawn’s seven-year- old told her last month he’d asked Jesus into his heart.  “And Mom,” he said, in an excited whisper.  “I didn’t ask Him in for just a day, I asked Him in for forever.”

Tammy's twelve-year old daughter, and ten-year-old son, was baptized a couple weeks ago: their idea.

Don’t be too busy to share the reason we’re here in the first place.

Ya’ know, I’m glad heaven is going to last forever.  But, I wonder… just what am I going to do with all that time?????”
